Sandpit Place is an innovative architectural solution to affordable housing within the Royal Borough of Greenwich. 32 no. contemporary, new-build houses with numerous private courtyards are arranged as three back-to-back terraces with a pedestrian mews running between each.

The scheme provides generous one-and two-bedroom accommodation for young people who are struggling to make the first step on the housing market and spearheads the commitment of the Client to provide high-quality affordable housing within the borough.

Martin Arnold provided Employer’s Agent, Clerk of Work and cost consultancy services from scheme inception through to completion. As part of these roles, we offered procurement advice, produced the Employer’s Requirements, JCT Contract and monitored the project finances, which allowed us to administer and deliver the scheme to our clients satisfaction. Construction quality was monitored throughout the build by our expert site inspectors. Martin Arnold played an integral part in delivery of this project to ensure the scheme delivered on time and within budget.

Quality Assurance

The contemporary design of the scheme features in excess of 100 flat roofs. As Employer’s Agent and Clerk of Works, Martin Arnold worked closely with the Principal Contractor to ensure appropriate sequencing solutions were employed to ensure quality standards were upheld throughout the construction of these areas during the winter months. MA dedicated additional resource to ensure an increased site presence to monitor the protection and drying out of the units was satisfactory.
